Pump Size for Marineland 93 Rimless Cube
Hey guys I am in the process of building a new tank Marineland 93 Rimless Cube. Dimensions are 30x30x24. I will be running a 20 long as the sump because of the the weird dimensions of the the stand. I am having difficulty selecting a return pump size. I am between a Mag 7 and the mag 9.5 and i just cant make a decision. I will be running to vortech MP 10s for added flow but i just wanted to get some input from everyone here.

You'll want something with a 3-5x turnover rate which in your case is 300-500 gph after head pressure loss is accounted for. The Mag 7 would be more within that range. You can get a stronger pump if you'd like but it offers negligable gains for the higher cost and energy consumption.
A lot of people would tell you not to get Mag Drives though because they're loud and hot but it's your own choice. Personally I'd choose an Eheim or Water Blaster. Take a look at my guide. Hopefully it'll clear things up for you. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/sh....php?t=2310181

It depends on the flow rate you want. How far are you pumping the water up and are there any 90 degree fittings in your plumbing. With straight plumbing a mag 7 is going to be in the 400-480 gph range @ 4-5 feet. There is a graph on Marine depot that shows head loss for each pump.

I use a mag 12 on my 120,its branched off to run a bio-pellet reactor. if you plan on running any reactors off your return you should get something like a mag 12 or OR3500.

I have the same rimless 93 cube and have a quiet one 6000 running it. It is overkill to a point right now, since I have the outlet throttled back 80%. I have it T'd to my fuge also and left an opening on another outlet to a reactor(carbon/gfo) when I get put it online. I went with more pump, so when I added things on, I wouldnt need another supply.
For inside the tank, I have crazy flow.....a tunze 6205 and 6155. I have BB do no worries about sand storm. -Steve |

Midlandreefguy and sbeason I am just starting a 93 cube build. Was going to go with 2 tunze 6095s and a tunze 1073.040 or a Sicce silent 4. Planned to go with a DSB but still undecided. Can you provide more info on your sumps? The cabinet I have has an internal dimension of 28x28x26. Thanks.
