The painted angler will eat your clown, and a mandarin if you got one, your mombasa could be an attempted snack as well. Sorry for the news.

so in time if i dont find a new home the clown will deffinitly get eaten?would i be able to keep a maroon clown since they get larger? the mandarin not being able to go in is kindof dissapointing since this was one of my favorite fish but if he is just going to get eaten i obviously wont be adding. should a flame angel be alright though?

A full size lion fish could gulp a clown, dwarf angel & mandarin in a heartbeat too. I'd pursue the Aggressive Fish forum here on RC for advice on compatible tank mates for a lion & angler....or even if a lion might eventually eat the angler.

Mombasa lions are a more of a medium sized lion that could possibly get big enough to eat all the fish listed. On the other hand, anglers, no matter what the size, are prone to at least sttempting to eat fish much parger than them, as much as twice the size of the angler. With that being said they have large mouths with very small brains and will attempt to eat anything that they think will fit in their mouth, which could end up killing your angler.

Didn't you any research before purchasing these fish? I agree with the other responses. A lionfish will make a snack out of the fish in your tank without a second thought.

Well i bought the clownfish as my first fish and then ordered a small antennata lionfish thinking they would be okay but I got a medium sized mombassa lion fish sent to my house somehow.the fish don't bother each other at all right now but I take it when the angler gets larger he will eat the clown.what could I get for tank mates?

A small Flame Angel may work (some will nip at corals, its a 50/50 chance), but as they grow they will need more room than your 55 gallon tank can provide. They start to get aggressive towards other tank mates if placed in too small of a tank.
