What's up with JUNK MAXIJETS need BETTER REPLACEMENTS

OK, use to be, Maxijets were great. I've had two crap out on me in the last month. The first one was an older model, before Cobalt. But it was marked on the box, Made in Italy. I bought it on E-bay and have had it for awhile. It was nib. A model 600 and I was using it on a BRS sgl Carbon reactor. Didn't use it 2 weeks till the impeller seperated from the magnet. I've tried regluing it with both gel and thin superglue. Guess I'll have to try epoxy next. The second pump was a newer Cobalt model MJ1200. I rec'd it with another BRS sgl Reactor that I am using for GFO. I haven't even checked it out yet, but noticed that it has also stopped les than 2 mos old !!! So what is the best pump to replace them with. Not opposed to a larger pump and manifold, though I was trying to keep them seperate for better control.

Eheim pumps although I've had good luck with the most recent Rio pumps. I'm using one as my main pump and it's been nothing but quiet and reliable.

Just build a manifold off your return pump, one pump feeds everything. simple, less heat, just get some small gate valves for each reactor feed line.

Leveldrummer, been thinking of doing just that. I am running an Ehiem 1260. I agree they are good pumps. I did like the fact I them on seperate pumps with dedicated switches on my DJ strip. But good valves could replace that....

All of my maxi jets are the older models that I have owned 5+ years that I bought from previous owners and who knows who else has owned them. Indestructible, and only replaced one impeller on one of them. I bought an MJ1200 before the cobalt line was introduced and I have no gripes other than the dumb intake that you screw in is really flimsy plastic but its been running for 4+ years. The new cobalt line has been pretty problematic from what I have read, its sad to see such a great brand of pumps go downhill..... I have a small eheim compact pump that has served as a fountain pump and it works awesome, I have never clean it.

you might want to upgrade your return to push a little more water to offset the manifold, but in the end, its much easier then having a bunch of different pumps running.

I was trying the same thing you did, running maxijets, they were really noisy, would break or just plain fall apart. i just bought a T and a small ball valve to run my GFO reactor and its so much better now. the only thing i could have done better is get a gate valve so adjusting my reactor wasnt so touchy.
