Lab Experiment - Please test your fresh made salt and post Nitrites

So, I did a water change of about 40% and got a bloom of diatoms. Now, bear in mind, I have never had diatoms, not even when I started the tank. I remember people saying that fresh made saltwater can aggravate algae issues (I have none). I was thinking, if thats the case, why bother doing water changes? So, on my next small water change, I made a batch of sat, mixed for an hour and checked the nitrites. The vial went straight to purple after passing aqua blue.

I dont have the money but I was curious about other salts. Not hearsay, but actual tests.

Can everyone test their salt for nitrites and post back? Would need to know what brand, what salinity you mixed to, what test kit your using and what your test kit said.

I will start. IO mixed to .024 read by refractometer mixed for about an hour and tested with a APC kit producing a deep purple.

Thanks

Are you mixing with RODI? Whats your TDS/ last RODI filter change? Does your municipality use chloramines?

I remember when zoanthids were called things like "green" and "orange" and not "reverse gorilla nipple."

Been a while since I was last on the board.

I am using rodi water with 0 TDS and tested for nitrites which produced no color change. I think my water company does use chloramines in the summer but I have 4 refillable charcoal canisters and a chloramine block filter thats new, so, if they are getting through, they are crafty critters.

Anyone else want to check theirs for me? I will send you 5 drops back in a sealed envelope to replace your used ones if you send me your address, lol.
