The waiting game.. Nem vs Clown Fish
So as many people who have BTA and clowns it takes awhile, if ever they host it. Well for the past, I want to say 2 months. My clown has been teasing me he is going to host it. He swims up to it, looks at it for awhile, swims away. He then come back gets really close to hit, swims away. Gets even closer and swims around the tencales, swims away.
This game has been going on forever, why won't he just host it |

It's like watching a pot boil: if you watch it, it will never happen! So quit watching them! LOL!
I guess I was lucky. My BTA was in the tank and well established before I added the clowns. The clowns came from an LFS that already had several anemones and almost all the clowns were hosting/hosted by anemones. The two new clowns almost immediately hosted the resident anemone. IMO, it appeared that the clowns indeed got stung when they first approached the 'nem. They would come close until a tentacle touched them, then they would blast off and have like a little seizure attack. This went on a few times, but in a week they were happily getting wrapped in the tentacles with no issues.

My clowns took about a month till the decided to live in the anemone. Then I bought a nice looking hammer coral and they move out of the anemone and into the coral. Almost a year later they now have moved back into the anemone.
Clowns and Clowns and they do what they want. |

Are they tank raised clowns? I have heard they are harder to persuade to host.

This issue that the most commonly tank breed clowns (( Ocellaris and Percs )) are naturally hosted by 2 of the hardest anemones to keep -- H. magnifica and S. gigantea. In home tanks they will usually be kept with an E. quadricolor -- which is not a natural host for those clowns. Years ago I picked up a pair of tank breed A. polymnus (( saddlebacks )), within 5 minutes of being released into the DT, they were being hosted by an anemone. The anemone happened to be an S. haddoni, a natural host anemone for them.
