Coral Question
Can I place corals with algae on my rock? Not on that specific rock but in general? I plan on doing some nitrate/lighting cutbacks to get rid of the algae but wanted to get a couple pieces.

IMO I would do the cutbacks first and get everything stabilized. Then start adding corals
How long has it been since you cycled? |

Shutting the lights off will only work temporarily. Water changes is your best bet. Can you cut back on feeding?

Yes, you can glue a frag to a rock with algae just by toothbrushng that rock surface first. However, if you have algae because your parameters are off, like high nitrates, not a good idea to buy coral yet. It won't be the algae but the bad parameters that'll do your coral in. Do the lights out, do the water change, do the less feeding, then see what happens first.

You should try to manually remove as much algae as you can while doing the water changes. Remove all the dead crabs and snails if you haven't already. What are your current nitrate lvls? I wouldn't add anything new to the tank until they are in the range of 10 - 15ppm give or take |
