Activated Carbon Rusting - Marineland Black Diamond
So after some reading and researching on this issue I have not found a proper answer.
I bought some Marineland Black Diamond Activated Carbon. I had it in a media bag and in the tank for about 24hrs. I checked the bag and noticed rust spots forming. So I ran a magnet through some of the carbon and pulled out magnetic pieces. What metal these are I have no idea I am guessing steel or iron. I have read where people think its simply iron pieces rusting and that it will do no harm. Then I read where people said not to trust it at all and pull the bag. So I simply pulled the bag out. I emailed Marineland and had no answer. Does anyone have any information on this. Why is my carbon rusting and what should I do. Keep using it or return the product. |

I would not use it, you don't know the composition of the metal and it does not belong in carbon. Carbon is cheap and not worth the risk.

So essentially your telling me that there is absolute no purpose to metal being in the carbon & this is a bad batch.
I should Return it to the store. I am kind of angry Marineland did not even respond to my email about this. |
