Or take a clear plastic container put a rock in the bottom. Drill a bunch of holes in it and put the cheato inside with a top on it

use eggcrate, get it at HD in the lighting section. Make a cube out of it with zip ties... done.

I use foam, zero issues. Just periodically, take foam out and wash it out, it will be full of stuff.

Thanks for the suggestions. I already have eggcrate so I may try the ziptie opption. Also the container with rock and holes sounds good too.

I would figure out a way to mod the glow going into the fuge to keep it away from the overflow. The best recipe for cheato growth is to have a ball of cheato rolling around so the hole thing gets light and sees water flow.

In my experience, jamming it behind a rock has always worked. Also, as already stated try and move it to a lower flow part of the fuge. Every few months I rip off about half of the cheato and then repack it into a ball containing as many loose bits as possible.
