Skimmer water depth question

I'm picking up a Bubble Magus Curve 5 this weekend for the new tank. LFS told me that the water depth on the skimmer is 9 to 11 inches.

Is this right or if anyone has one can you let me know. My friend is building a sump for me & he didn't think it needed to be that deep. He was going to do some research on it & I thought I'd see what people on here are doing.

Thanks!

How big is your tank? Curve 5 is up to 140gal. Yes it needs to be that deep.

I have a 40 breeder. Need to change my signature line, have the 28 & never did anything with it lol.

Using a 20 long for a sump, not sure if that is going to work since the baffles will be so high & the height on the tank is 12.5 inches.
