Goniopora Question?

Upon driving down to my LFS I noticed they had this softball size Goniopora. The best part? Only $20! I've never housed one before and I've heard on various forums, they can be difficult to impossible to maintain in a home aquarium. But the fish lady said "They only live up to a certain age in captivity. That's why they don't tend to do well in home aquarium".

Can anyone speculate this? Is it true?

I had one for years. Ended up selling it and I know it's still alive and thriving.

That may be the most circular, content-free statement I've ever read. She's saying they don't live long because they die. It sounds like she's making an excuse to sell an animal that most people won't be able to care for and tying to make an excuse so they won't get mad when the coral dies.

I think there are people who have kept these guys for a long time. You should ask in the LPS forum about their needs.

The green ones can be pretty hard to keep, but the red or pink ones tend to do pretty well. There's a few good threads in the LPS section on keeping them healthy.
