T-8's are typically only available for freshwater aquarium lighting fixtures, and don't provide the needed intensity for a reef tank.

I've ran T8s for a few years now, not really good enough for reef tanks, ok for FOWLR setups. I'm just about to upgrade to LEDs from ReefBreeders (a sponsor of Reef Central). I use to just use to AquaOne tubes, they were the only type the LFS's carried.
