wanting to cycle new tank without filter
i have a 10 gal running at the moment and want to upgrade to a biger tank i just got a 29 gal that i want to start up and transfer all of my coral and equipment to which is all rated up to it.. question is can i start my cycle without my filter and once its started move the filter i have running already to the new tank along with power head, lights and heater and of coarse all my inhabitants. i though of "jump starying" this new tank by gradually transfering sand from my old tank to my new one along with a filtration foam in the filter to impregnate the new tank with the bacteria i need. i think this should not be a problem if i do some wayer changes frecuently sence i wouldnt have a filter to help with filtration oviously but just wanted to get some opinions on the fact that the filter already has tje biological bacteria on it i wouldnt have to wait for it to get colonized in my new tank.. thanks for reading this lomg mess i wrote and for the feedback. forgot to ad that i would put more live rock in the new tank to help out.

But......yes you can start to cycle without your filter. It sounds like you are on the right track.

of course tell us what your plan is? Maybe just transfer your 10 gal straight into your 29 gal? What kind of coral and fish do you have? Is your tank currently healthy? The only thing you are changing is the tank itself? All other equipment is staying? Might want to consider drilling that sucker and get a sump going. Sumps are great for keeping my hands out of DT.
