Store going out of business. What should i buy?
Hello Everyone!
The setup I currently have right now is a : JBJ 30 Gallon Rimless Nano Cube The LFS i am currently going to is going out of business and everything they have in the store is going on sale for 30 percent. Even life stock! I was wondering if you guys could help me out with a few things I've been meaning to buy. As you all know this hobby can get quite expensive quite fast. But once its hooked its fangs into you... I currently have one healthy Onyx Clown fish in my tank. I would like to get him a buddy. Any recommendations on what I could be looking for? Also, I've been meaning to buy my own water test kit? any suggestions on brand or what i should be looking at? Supplements I could be buying for cheap to help keep a healthy tank. I also have a few corals in there all soft. I would like to add more. Are there any substances or chemicals I should consider buying as well? The sale ends Oct 31st but everythings flying off the shelf. |

Off the top of my head... 2-part solutions, Mg solutions would be at the top of my list. Depending on your softies, phytoplankton. How 'bout frozen fish food, which would keep in your freezer?
Live stock, that's touchy because there's no guarantee. But, if you find another Onyx clown, you'd be in luck. I don't recommend mixing species of clowns, especially in a small tank. Black Cap Basselets, Grammas and Dwarf Angels are nice.

Dude. Buy what you want. I agree with stocking up on foods. Get stock of things you might need in the future. Bulbs, chemicals you could use, salt, etc. Also, if you were looking to upgrade anything, now would be the time. I would wait until last minute when they are getting ready to lock the doors and go snag a 120 gallon tank with as much stuff that goes with it. If they have anything like that left over and its down to either loose it totally or sell it for something, you could most likely score it for next to nothing.

food, powerheads, heaters, etc. anything that can sit in a box until you need it. salt. can't ever have too much salt (I buy 4 - 6 cases at a shot) livestock I might be a bit leery of because if they are going out of business they may have let their tanks slide...

If you're only going to get a few things, I'd get food, salt, and test kits. API or Sailfert test kits are good. You can't go wrong. Hanna Checker for dkh.

Salt mix, refractometer, bulbs for lights, frozen food, a good quality test kit, power strips, powerheads/wavemakers, heaters, thermometers. The list and possibilities is there for the taking. If you can, wait awhile on some stuff when they drop their prices to 50 - 70%.

I agree with above. Food, salt mixes, test kits, heaters, powerheads, tubing, extra tanks for QT or hospital tanks... basically anything that you need replacing or for emergency or just good to have on hand.

Thanks for all the helpful responses everyone!
I did end up going back to pick up: API Test kits for Phosphate and Nitrates! My first very own refractometer! I also got a Rio+ 90 powerhead. Unfortunately salts and food and livestock have been cleared out. I'm waiting for a Sunburst Anthia that i really love the size and coloration of that they have in their display tank. My friend Robert can't catch it yet I also scored a new innovative marine LED Tablet for my tank for $125. It retails for around $250! I shall take into consideration of buying a new heater! I'm going to wait until it gets closer to pick myself up a 8 Gallon Nano Cube so i can have the 2 clown and anenome setup i've always wanted! |
