Leaking Eheim 2217
I have an Eheim 2217 on my 75g cichlid tank that sprung a leak recently. The leak is on the output side where the male and female connectors are. It only leaks when the filter is on and the male side of the connector's valve is opened. It started after I took it out of the cabinet the other day to clean it. At first, when I was looking at the male end, I thought it was missing an o-ring, since it seemed like there was a good spot for a second one. However, the other male ends on my Eheims do not have a second o-ring there. I even replaced the male side with one from another Eheim I have laying around and it leaked as well. I can't see any visible damage to any part of the filter or its hoses. I would appreciate any help you could provide.

maybe not too helpful, but I have a pro II canister and have had two leaks (well, still have one). The first one was on the barbed connector area. I thought I had an issue with the tubing, but it ended up being a hairline crack in the barb area that was hard to see. I guess disconnecting and moving the tubing around for cleaning, etc put stress on the barb and it eventually cracked.
Current leak is with the main gasket, got a new gasket arriving tomorrow to hopefully resolve that. I've read a lot of various forum posts about the main gaskets, o-rings, etc failing after a few years on the eheims. Maybe both or your o-rings are going bad? I would think the one that wasn't in use for a while could be dried out and leaking itself. |

Can you post a picture of it? Is it leaking below the barb where the barb exist the top of the canister. I have a 2015 and a 2013 I think that they are similar.

I don't think it's leaking from the barbs. It seems to be leaking from where the male and female connectors screw together.

I changed the female connector and now it doesn't leak. I'm not sure why I became so sure the problem was with the male end, but I was sitting at work today and suddenly realized how to fix the problem.
