Ball valves on drain plumbing

I know I want unions on coming from the tank below the builkhead but is it recommended to use ball valves between the bulk head and union? What are others doing? Seems the only real value with installing them is not having to wait for the tank to drain below the drain tube when shutting off the pump so you can take the line apart to clean them clean.

Am I missing something here?

Thanks

I don't use valves on my drains, I don't see any need for them.

Only time to use a valve on a drain is when running a full siphon - and then you should use a gate valve.
