Removing ich from a reef tank!
Hi,
I have a few concerns that I need help on. But first here are my specs Tank - 46 gallon Reef Octopus BH-1000 Aquatop Canister filter 40 lbs live sand 45 lbs live rock 2 clownfish 1 orchid dottyback 3 scarlet hermit crabs Zoa Coral Frogspawn coral Temp 80 degrees PH 8.2 Salinity 1.025 Tank has been up for 2 and a half months I will have the nitrates nitrites and ammonia posted tomorrow after my weekly test.(Last time I checked everything was perfect.) Today my BiColor Angel Fish died on me I did a freshwater bath and it didn't help. It seemed to develop a blackish tint on its face and its body sort of had a white shine to it. Well it died and I am wondering if my tank is contaminated my other seem to behave fine currently, but I want to know if I should treat it somehow I have AP Pro QuICK Qure from my freshwater aquarium but it says its not safe on live rock coral or inverts. Is it necessary to do a precautionary curing? I do weekly water changes |

If it's ich and you want to eradicate it you are going to need a 2nd tank and leave your display tank empty of fish for 10+ weeks. In a reef tank eradication is only done by cutting the parasite off from it's host.
There is no such thing as a reef safe ich treatment. There are only small tools to help your fish fend for themselves against it... in the long run who wins, who knows. I'd read up on the stickies in the fish disease treatment section. Most of all I would try to get a pic of the infected fish so that it can confirmed it is indeed ich.

Okay I will have a pic of all three remaining fish up tomorrow with my nitrate nitrite and ammonia levels. However there were no white dots on the bicolor angel that died. It had popeye then fin rot and had black dots and then it's face has a lot of black patches, it had a whitish tint. I think my water quality is not the problem as my other fish are not only good but they act really happy.
