cycle question-no algae's
New to the hobby and don't want to add anything to the tank till its good and ready. I put 60 pounds of dry rock in a brute can with two power heads and a heater. Added a shrimp and some bio-spira and let marinate for over 5 weeks. Then a couple weeks ago added the 60 pounds of rock and 50 pounds of ocean direct sand and bio spira to the DT and started up the 2 power heads, heater, return pump and 20 gallon sump. Tested ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, alkalinity and so on and all seem in line. I am also ghost feeding the tank as well and still all is well, and I just started the skimmer up a couple days ago to break it in.
My question is how can I be sure the tank is ready for life? I have not had any diatoms or any other algae this far. Thanks. |

You've got your cycle done, you can start slowly adding in fish now.

If you want to be sure add a 1/4 teaspoon of pure ammonia to the tank and test. The ammonia should be neutralized into nitrates within 24 hours if the tank is cycled.
