Stand swap! HELP
My dog has been peeing on my wooden aquarium stand so I'm going to have a steel stand made. What is my best option for moving the tank between stands without loosing live stock and damaging the tank? I have a 60g tall aquarium with a yellow tang, 2 occ clowns, a fire fish goby, royal gramma, and a few mushrooms and Kenya trees.

Assuming that the switch will not take long, Drain the tank into large rubber made or similar containers and add the fish and other live stock. You need to get it down to a weight you can lift and transfer, probably with some help.
Be sure to add a pump in the container(s) containing fish and other livestock. Is there a sand bed? That presents a new set of problems if there is. If so how long has the sand bed been there? Disturbing it will very likely release harmful things into the water.

Drain tank into brute trash cans leaving a couple inches of water for fish. Get a couple guys to help swap tank/stand. Put water back in.

Yes there is a sand bed, it has been in the tank since I started it, but the tank is less than a year old, and the Sand bed isn't too deep

Never have had to do that before, but i think if i was faced with that I would first get a friend with a bit of muscle, then take 70% of water out and store in Rubber Maid Brute can(s), with heater to maintain temp. Then get new stand and set right next to the old stand. Then very carefully and in unison with muscle bound friend , move tank onto new stand, being extremely careful to keep it level, and try not to let water and rock slosh around.
Remove old stand and then very carefully slide or move new tank and stand back into place. Those carpet sliders that movers use to move furniture may prove to come in handy. I would also try to figure out why Rover is choosing to go in that spot, he may start in on the metal stand as well. There may be something in the carpeting in that area, or he may think you love your fish more than him? Good Luck! |

Well the wooden Stand is swelling, and it is compromising my stand, that's why I'm choosing a metal stand. But it's on hard floor with a carpet under it and he keeps peeing on the leg and it soaks the rug and I can't get the rug out from under the stand!
