New 29g Biocube! Pics!

Just wanted to show you guys some pics of my first biocube! It's 29 gallons and it sits in our bedroom. Love it! I took the water, some sand, a filter from my sump, and some liverock from my 240 gallon and put it into the tank to "instantly cycle." It has a 150w metal halide light on it. With the stand, tank, powerheads, light, and some live rock, it only cost me 100 bucks on craigslist. Talk about a deal! Anyway, here are some pics of the tank. Not the best camera, but good enough I hope. Also, any suggestions about livestock and/or coral would be great. My first real reef, since the 240 is FOWLR. There are also a couple pics from the 240. Been set up for about 6 months.

The tank looks nice! good job on using the sump rock for quick cycling.

Curious how the lamp affects the water temperature.

It honestly doesn't affect it too bad at all. I have a glass piece over the tank, and with a 200w heater, it only has raised it a couple of degrees. Without the glass it was 75 and with it's between 77 and 78. Light is amazing too!

Cool. Thanks for the reply. I just purchased a used jbj hqi 28 gallon tank. It came with a 70 watt MH and a 150 watt ballast. The bulb is burning out, (I turn it on, it lights up, a minute or so later it clicks off). If I can find a glass top to fit the tank I'll try a 150 watt bulb. (The canopy was modified from fluorescents, by the previous owner who didn't replace the glass cover.)

Forgive my longwindedness. :-)

LOL. You're perfectly fine. This glass I know had the edges beveled so that it could fit the top nicely. I would def. get a 150w bulb (mine is 14k) since you already have the ballast. What type of corals you thinking of having in it?

I'll eventually move everything from my dinky 10 gallon reef tank into this one. There's zoas and acans, mostly, but there are also several green star polyp colonies, several favia, a couple blastomussa and a micromussa. Sexy Shrimp, a Tailspot blenny and a yellow Clown Goby are the swimming roomies. Those and Mini brittle stars and other inverts.
