Sponges overrunning

Just looked at my sump because the skimmer hasn't been picking up much. I think these are white sponges. Are they going to be a problem or what?

Shouldn't be a problem, I have them in my sump as well.

Those kind of look like pineapple sponges to me. Starting out in this hobby, someone told me that (1) a shrimp's ability to molt and (2) sponges growing and thriving are two signs of a healthy reef tank. I would say you are AOK!

I had so many of those. I started to suck them out. They are cool but started to grow in-between my Zoas and Chalices and they were not too happy about it.

They are good for the tank. I leave the ones in my sump and my Angels eat the ones in the display. Every now and again I will pick one out of the sump to give my Angels a snack.

IME, populations like the one in the picture will usually dwindle as the tank matures.

I figured this would not necessarily be a bad thing. Are these going to eat all the phytoplankton though? That would be a bummer.

I'm pretty sure they don't eat the plankton. If I'm not mistaken, they soak up silicates in your tank.

Not a bad thing. Your tank is headed in the right direction.
