Next steps for new tank
Tank finished the first cycle. It is as follows:
50 gallon bow front 50-60lbs live sand 50lbs rock 2 x Hydor Koralia Evo 850s Reef Octopus BH1000 Skimmer 1 x Blue Sapphire Damsel CUC consisting of approximately: 40 Dwarf Ceriths 10 Nassarius 10 Florida Ceriths 10 Nerites 10 Assorted Hermits I have a small amount of green algae on the rock, but based on asking questions in another thread, that's normal. My question is what would people advise for the next addition to the tank. Should I add to the CUC with a shrimp or other invert, or is it time to add fish and corals???? Want a couple of clownfish to keep the kids happy, other than that, am open to suggestions. This is my first ever reef tank, so I'm looking for fish and coral that might be good for the beginner. Do I need to get a partner/mate for the Blue Sapphire Damsel? I've been told that these are the least aggressive damsels around..... |

This produces equally-poisonous nitrite, which reaches a high level. Next, a new nitrite-eating bacteria develops to clear it up & the level falls,Walkera RC Hélicoptère, producing relatively safe nitrate. Nitrate is removed by routine water changes.

I always think this is one of the most foolish statements. If you do a 10% water change, you only rmove 10% of the nitrate. If NO2 is 50 it would take 17 water changes to get below 10 and 39 to get below 1.
Even a 20% change reults in 9 for 10 and 19 for below 1 This of course assumes nothing is adding to NO3, but if it is already elevated, there wil no doubt be increase to off set some of the progress made with water changes.

I definitely wouldn't suggest getting another damsel. Check out Sk8r's Post on Damsels, Chromis, and Clowns. If your tank is fully cycled and your parameters are good you should be able to add a couple of clowns and an invert at the same time with no problem. Most would suggest waiting a couple of months before adding any coral to allow your system to become more established. Others will argue that adding soft corals such as mushrooms, Xenia, or zoas will be fine. You just don't want to add too much too fast.

I would start off with some Ocellaris clowns , they are very hardy fish
If your getting two of them, try to get them paired http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/p...137&pcatid=137 As far as coral, my tanks been up and running two months, my water parameters are good, so I added some LPS coral, a mushroom, some Zoa's etc Check out wrasse , cardinals, rabbit fish like a one spot fox face Have fun, good luck!
