BA Overflow - John Guest Fitting?

What is the best way to plumb the top of the open channel standpipe? I know its supposed to take a John Guest Fitting, but how do I get that fitting into the cap?

I drilled and tapped the cap then used a threaded fitting on mine.

Did you use a slip or threaded cap? I used slip on the others since I have a union right under the tee so I can clean them if it needs it. That one I feel like I might want to be able to replace easier?
