100 gallon protein skimmer for a 40 gallon?
I was just wondering if I reef octopus nwb 110 would be a good protein skimmer for a 40 gallon breeder with a 20 gallon sump
any opinions? |

IMHO, oversizing is always a good idea for a couple reasons. First, Skimmers are, for the most part, over rated by the manufacturers. Second, you will be upgrading the tank eventually - RIGHT????

I ran that same skimmer on my 40br and it was perfect

The ratings on that skimmer are not realistic, it could not handle my 110 but worked much better on the old 58. It would be a good fit for a 40 with a decent bio load. It is a decent little skimmer, I still have mine.

Don't go by the rating for the skimmer but what other people are using that particular skimmer on and if they like it. For instance I had a 55 gallon tank and my Euro Reef RS 80 worked flawlessly on it.
