should i treat during qt if no symptoms of disease?

I just bought two yellow tangs that are currently in at. That being said should I go ahead and start treating in case they have rich or some other infection? If so, I am thinking either hypo or copper safe. Anything else I should try to treat? I lost 4 yellow tangs and 5 Bartlett anthias a couple months ago due to a infection in at so I don't want that to happen again. The anthias came in sick but I was going to try and save them. Oh well!!!!!!

Fish can carry parasites without showing symptoms (subclinical infection), so you run the risk of a full-blown infection if you don't treat prophylactically. You'll get different opinions about proactive treatments, but I personally treat ALL incoming fish for disease using Prazipro and chloroquine phosphate.

Yes. At the bare minimum run hypo for a week or 2. I'd be inclined to say just pretend every fish is infected when you get it. Probably save a lot of heart ache and time every time the DT gets to be fallow.

QT all new fish regardless where you get them. There is no guarantee your fish will be ich free. Tangs are notoriously known to be ich magnets.

Where can I get chloroquine? Can't find it anywhere.

Agree that you will get differing views on proactive treatments depending upon the level of risk one is willing to bear and the $$ and time invested in the DT fish population.

I QT all fish, many but not all with prazipro, but have historically only prophylactically treated Tangs for things like ich.

If you want to approach 100% confidence for eliminating things like ich, velvet, etc., then you do need to treat all fish and keep all new inverts in a fish less QT for 12 weeks.

Still don't believe there is as such thing as a ich free reef tank. I put all my fish in copper quarantine and let mine go for 8 weeks fish free. I still get ich occasionally. Just keep the quarantine for new fish.

The only way to assure ich free is to keep a fish only tank and use copper.

I know I will get lots of arguments on this but I've been trying for years and this is my experience. Even if u think ur tank is ich free its probably just the fish have built an immunity to it.

i always qt all fish and recommend same for everyone. Prazipro all fish. Hypo or copper fish known to carry ich like Tangs. Observe diagnose then treat.
Read through my sticky, Guide to setup a QT.

If you are diligent about quarantine and treat all incoming fish, you can have an ich-free tank. There are a number of well-respected posters here who have done so for years. The life cycle of cryptocaryon is well understood.
