Disappearing Fish Where is Waldo
I have had 2 fish disappear in the last 2 weeks which I have never had happen to me before. I have had jumpers but always found the fish on the floor.
I feel like it is a game of where is Waldo. My set up is new. A 93 gallon rimless cube that I cover at night and leave open during the day. My Live rock is BRS pukani and it had been in a holding tank with heat and pumps for 8 months fishless. I do have two tangs in the tank a yellow and a Sail-fin but I am going to remove them from this tank, they eat to much for my display. My family asks if they ate the fish. ??? Maybe they did something else to them? the Tank is bare bottom with no starboard so I can see the underside of the rock if I look through the bottom of the stand. I couldn't find either, but I did find I need to blast under the rocks with a power head when I clean. Fish that disappeared a Picasso clown fish the female. She had been jumping over the overflow box previously , but now it is cover with egg crate. so no more jumping there. I looked allover the floor around my tank under my tank every where my sump is elevated by 2 x 4 and I even used the camera on my phone to look under it and no fish. He has been gone for 9 days Female Bartlett Anthias only in the last 24 hours I can not find her. She didn't' come out for feeding. I looked all over and under my rock. No fish. both were not found on the floor. I have no other pets so no one to eat the evidence. Any ideas , help, suggestions would be great. Thanks |

Do you think you could have a hitchhiker from your LR that is eating your fish? Seems like only your small fish are disappearing...
Being that it is a new tank, what are your water parameters? |

+1 for hitchhikers.
Also, what do you have for a CUC? It's quite possible to loose a fish and never see the body because it gets consumed so quickly... but I would lean towards something dragging them into a hole in the rocks. Try looking at your tank at night with a flashlight and see if anything with sharp teeth or claws shows up. Good Luck Mike |
