Help setting up a new sump
Hello,
I'm going to be setting up a new system and I don't have any experience with using a sump. The tank is going to be 48"(L)x20"(W)x16"(H) and about 63 gallons. I got a pretty good deal on a used sump measuring 30"(L)x18"(W)x16"(H) and was hoping I could get some help utilizing the space. The water flows from left to right, over the first baffle and under the second. I was initially planning on setting up a sump/refugium but this sump isn't configured for a refugium. So, my questions are: Is there a way to modify the sump and add a refugium? If not, what would be the best use of the space? I plan to eventually run a GFO/Carbon reactor but until then I was thinking about just putting some media in a bag in the center 4" section. The return section is 10x18" and it seems like a lot of space for just a return pump, and even with the skimmer, the overflow section has an 8"x18" area of unused space. I understand the added water volume is beneficial, but I feel like there could be more done with the space. And finally, any advice on how to plump the lines going in? I'm not sure of the intended use of the two hole tower on the overflow question. Thanks for any help with this set up, and if there is any useful info I left out, please let me know. |
