110 High New Build, Lighting Question
Quick question for all those of you with lots of experience out there.
Setting up a new 110 high mixed reef tank (48x18x30), and looking at LED lighting options. Have not built the hood yet, so some flexibility with what I was looking at, but considering reefbreeder photon 48 LED fixture for the set up. I was wondering what you all thought of the idea. Planning on having a mixed bag of coral in there, but trying SPS for the first time. To this point have just kept LPS and Softies in a 55 gallon, and currently a 29 gallon over the past 10 years. Good success with those and finally have the resources to step up to a bigger system. I didn't know if the 48 inch was necessary or if the photon 32 would be enough and still cover the entire tank. Do not want low light spots in the tank, but if the spread was sufficient with the photon 32 it would generate less heat and give better air flow around the fixture, plus more flexibility in the hood. I know heat is the enemy of LED fixtures. Open to other suggestions as well, or other fixture suggestions. Have not purchases anything yet. Have run Halides and T5s in the past. Thanks for your input. |

Thanks for the info. I think I'm going to go with the photon 48. Looked at a lot if lights and can't argue with the reviews, the product or the price. One great thing about these is the ability to crank them down if it ends up being too much. I'll get some photos of the set up uploaded soon. Still trying to find the time to build the room in the basement and working on getting the plumbing all set up. Pump (waveline dc 12000) should be arriving today or tomorrow. This is slowly coming together.....so time to get this light on order.

A little disappointed with the lack of feedback, but got some good responses in the "Reef Breeders" forum.

Hopefully I'll get to start working on the actual plumbing this week and get some more pictures up. Waveline DC 12000 due to arrive any day now.
