Trigger Systems Sump/Refugium

Came across these sumps, and they look really well made. Does anyone have experience with them? Trying to decide between the "regular" sump and the elite. Pros & cons with each?

Pretty sure they are know to be good but pricey. You could have a custom sump built for less.

I have one and I love it. I got mine off craigslist from a guy that was only in the hobby for a couple of months, spent all this money on new equipment and decided it was too much work. I'm sure you’ll be able to find one in your area used for around $200. Save yourself $150 and look around. It might be used but they come with lifetime warranties and if there’s anything wrong with it, they had awesome customer service.

Great, thanks for the advice. I'll look at the used market to see if I can save some money.

The "standard" sump seems more straightforward in design. Other than controlling the flow to the refugium, are there other advantages to the Elite model?

Pre-fab'd sumps like that are way more expensive then they need to be. The same function can be had with a breeder tank and some DIY skills. Likely, your LFS can fab one up for you for the price of the tank, and $100 in labor/material....leaving you with an extra $200 you can spend on good beer and a "leave me and my tank alone" bribe gift for the wife.

Fill your tank with $5 bills, add gasoline and light it on fire.....only then will you know the real cost of reefing.

Excellent, thanks for the tip. I'm going to stop by my LFS this weekend, so I'll ask about building one for me. I'm taking the wife to Hawaii in October, so I have the bribe covered.

Not sure you guys are comparing apples to apples when pricing things out. I looked at making one and as of January 2014, it costs 44 bucks for a sheet of 1/2" CAST acrylic that is 36 x 18". For a 30" elite clone, you would need approx 6-7 sheets. Thats already well over 200 bucks just in plastic. Add in about 40 bucks in shipping, glue, cutting, time, and the risk of screwing up your new floors... is it really worth it? Having said that, where are you getting your plastic so cheap?
