Confused--need help
Need help from anyone that may have had this problem before.
Start from the beginning. I have a 60g with a 10g sump. Running a skimmer. I have a 4 light odyssea. Corals and all were doing awesome. I decided to upgrade to a wavemaker setup with dual 850's. Currently running a pair of older power heads, one is a 400 and one is a600. Put the neww setup in and had a couple montipora's i needed to glue down(super glue gel). Above three or four hours later all my xania and my kenia trees and someof my corals looked like poop. I took the power head setup out and replaced the old setup.Things are looking better but the xania isn't opening up,well some is slightly. Everything seems to be coming back but very very gradually? Oh yeah my yellow tang died ,my clowns, cardinals, and my firefish are okay? What happened? The power heads couldnt have done that could they? Or was it maybe the glue? I did do a 30% water change the next day trying to give everything a boost, using red sea coral pro. Anyone ever had that problem before? |

If you used a lot of glue it could cause the coral to close up temporarily but I’ve never heard of it affecting a fish. Same with the wave-maker, a short term time spent closed would be expected, but after a couple of days everything should be normal. Perhaps the fish death was unrelated and just giving the coral some time to adjust is all that is needed.

any chance it was stray voltage from a frayed wire or something?
did you wash the pumps before placing them in the tank? what type of glue did you use? have you used it in your tank before?

Pumps are brand new,I washed them in RO/DI water-actually soaked them overnight--after the problem in the one tank I took them out and put them in my other tank---no problem?
Super glue gel that I used before. |

Some of my xania is finally opening but just slightly. I just checked the nitrates and phosphates.
The nitrates and the phosphates just barely showed on the chart. |

Corals hate change. Even beneficial change will cause them to close until they can cycle the old water through. Then they'll be happy.
Re the death of the fish---no answer, but suspecting either a chemical agent or lack of oxygen. Tangs are very oxy-needy.

I've heard tangs cam go from being perfect feeding and swimming and then be dead? I have one aipstasia that couldnt have killed him, could it.
The corals are very slowly still opening. I think it's like you said they didn't like the change. Crazy I thought they would like more current flow, but obviously not. |
