How to control temp
For the past 2 months I have been trying to figure out how to control the temp of my tank. It is normally around 80F and when I turn the lights on it gets to like 82.5...
I don't even run the heat in my apartment.. I have 1 heater in my display tank that I keep at 78F.... Any help, how hott is to how for a reef tank |

Have you checked the temp with two different thermometers and their readings matched?
Your submersible pump could be a source of excess heat. I'd researched into low heat pumps and replaced it. What are your lights? If MH, perhaps get something less heat intensive. Your heater's calibration could be out of whack. Might want to replace it. |

I thought maybe it was because it's just hotter in there

if you have a canopy putting a small fan inside can reduce heat more than you may think. Or you could aim it at your sump under your stand of where ever you may have your sump.

Also I have had a heater become defective on me after having it in my tank for around 6 months. I came home and it had gotten stuck in the heating phase and had my tank at 92 degrees. I lost so much livestock from that experience. So if you even think for a moment it could be your heater acting up, replace it!
