candycane corals - when to feed them?

@ night i noticed they have there tentacle looking things out.... is this the best time to feed candycanes?

I never bother feeding mine.

Yes that is a caulastrea eating a bristle worm.

whats weird is, i have 2 candycane frags.
the one ive had the longest - 6 months hasn't multiplied any . just gotten a little puffier. (no tentacles)
the other frag originally had 2 large heads on it - now its split and almost turned into four (4 months). (has tentacles)
do some candycanes keep doubling where as others don't even grow?

I usually feed mine right before my LED kicks on the moon light. They usually have them out then. Even if they aren't out, if you put food right on them, they will usually suck it in.
