strange creature need ID

I first witnessed this strange creature a few weeks ago riding a snail after lights out. I snapped some pics then disposed of it. Today I noticed another one crawling on the bottom while the lights were on. They are about 1" long about 1/16 round and have a lot of 1/4-3/8 long stings on one end. They are very slow and move like a slug. I have not noticed any coral damage or any harm, just looking for an ID.

There seems to be some divide regarding how safe they are. Special concern with zoas.
