Help on Upgrading from 125 to 220
So I currently have a 125g in wall tank and just acquired a 220. I know the usually steps of upgrading to a larger tank, as I have done it before, but I believe being 2 large tank and some other variables make this more difficult.
First, I am going to be putting the 220 in the same spot as the 125, so I can't just transfer it right to the other tank. I know I will have the change the size of the whole in the wall for viewing, and I will also be building a larger tank. I'm not sure what I can do with everything other than buying a ton of plastic container and putting all of the contents into them. Does anyone have any othe suggestions? I would hate to buy all of these containers and only have to use them once. |

well you could always return the containers. many ppl do it all the time when doin tank transfers...
but my best suggestion if you dont wanna do all that. just transfer water rock and fish into the 220g, do something wit the sand (what ever you had planned for it). move 125g. drain water into there, relocate 220g, switch everything into the 220g. but thats alot of extra steps and more stress on fish and corals. but clearly you need to put water, corals, rock, sand, fish in something. id suggest a couple brute garbage cans. make the switch, rinse them out, dry them off and return for money back, thank you, done. lol...

You can also try a kiddie pool. They're inexpensive and will hold a lot of water. I would still hold the rocks and sand on brutes or 15 gallon containers. 2-12 packs of good beer to lure 3 or 4 friends, some burgers and a fun-filled Saturday...

Brute trash cans are always wonderful to have on hand, they can help in WC's and emergencies, and usually make pretty good holding vessels.
If you have corals they will need light, so maybe a smallish tank that could be used as a QT later.

I did think about the kiddie pool idea, that may be my best option at this point. I already have enough brute cans and buckets, don't really need any more...don't have the room either.
It's just a problem because I need temporary holding spots for many, many gallons of water. The water currently in the 125 and 40 breeder sump, plus the extra water I will need to store for the upgrade to a larger tank, 220g and a 100g sump. Lots of water to store in order to do the move... |

I moved everything into my 100 gallon rubbermaid sump.
Find some local reefers. They are bound to have containers you could use. |
