Question on swapping tanks
I currently have a 47 gallon cube with a canister filter and will soon be moving to a 120 with a sump/refugium. I have several corals that I plan on moving over. I will be using new dry rock in the DT but planned on using my current live rock in the sump to help the bioload. One issue I have is freaking waving hand spreading all over the place in the current tank that I DO NOT WANT in the new tank, I assume even if it is in the sump it could spread to the DT? Should I not use the current live rock without cooking it and basically starting over? Can I remove most of it from the rock by hand then to the sump without lights or would the remaining stuff dying cause a bad stuff spike in chemistry? I do have the option of cycling the new tank without breaking down the old tank but was hoping to save a little time and money by re-using the liverock in the new tank. Any other ideas/suggestions on switching tanks would be appreciated. Thanks

I recently transferred tanks, 20l to a 75 gal RR tank. I ran the 7 day course of Seachem Stability to get my beneficial bacteria going before making the move. Ditched the old sand and went with new aragonite sand. Matched salinity, temp and added the live rock 30lbs from my 20l to the 60lbs of Reef savor dry already in the new tank. I also added the water from the old tank. All my live stock went next. Never had an ammonia spike or even a small cycle. All livestock are doing great SPS Acros, monti, LPS, BTA, Blue Maxima clam and fish. I waited a while before adding new critters.

Honestly, the main question I have is in regards to the anthelia and not transferring it to the new tank.

Tricky.. See the " Fluke Tabs Solved My Blue Clove Polyp Problem! " thread on this forum. Works for xenia and gsp too, apparently. I had anthellia all over the place in my 20, and this solved it. Now in a 40 breeder, and the little polyps never came back.

Don't use your old sand from the old tank. Use new sand. You're going to need a lot of holding tanks.
Is it possible to put the new tank next to the old one while you're setting up the new one?

So I think since I've been getting conflicting advise on this that I'm just going to use all dry rock in the new system and fully cook the old rock to prevent accidental transfer of some of these softies.
