Rebuilding a 150 tall

I have a tall 150 glass tank that has a center brace that's cracking and a stand that has never given me good access. I've decided it's time to fix those issues as well as upgrade to a tank that has a built in overflow.

I've started building the frame out of 2x4s and 2x6s. I've ordered the cabinet face frames for the 3 sides so that it will match some cabinets I have in the bar area. They should be made and delivered in 3 weeks.

I'm hoping to have the old tank/stand moved out and the new tank and bare 2x4 stand in place by then.

Any tips on re-using the sand? I'd like to use it to save the cost of buying new. What's the best way to rinse/wash it?
I have 40 pounds of new live sand in bags. It's old though and dried out so I'm sure it's not live anymore but I'm still planning on using it to add a bit more depth.
