Skimmer Question?
Guys,
I've been in the hobby for many years now. Get this I have a cycling question. It's been over ten years since I cycled a new tank. Let alone with all dry rock and substrate. So I built a new 40 breeder setup with all dry Marco rock, topic of Eden sand, running a custom acrylic sump that I built. I have an SRO 1000 internal skimmer on this system. Hers a picture The issue I'm having is with the skimmer. The skimmer is sitting in 5.5 inches of water. That's exactly what it calls for. Since I've added the substrate and dry rock my skimmer will not stop over flowing. It was working fine till all the rock and such was added. Right now I'm just cycling the tank so there is no real bio load. Figuring once I get some bacteria and good slime coat the skimmer will settle back down. Has anybody experienced this skimming issue with all dry rock and dry substrate? I've never cycled a tank all dry before, I've always used live rock.

Give it a week or two. Your skimmer is going crazy with all the different kinds of debris, oil, and other stuff. My skimmer acted up when I added sand. I would just let it drain in your sump eventually it will settle down.

Give it time another thing you can do is mix up a tub of fresh saltwater and put your skimmer in the tub and run it for a little while to help break down the oils in the skimmer if it doesn't clear up while running in that tub you may have a problem with your air line on it but that's something to do to give you peace of mind

Did you add any type of chemicals to the tank? Use RO/DI water?

Thanks guys!
I'm going to do a partial water change thinking it might help with the particulate matter in the water column. Then ill let it drain into the sump till it settles down.
