Xenia dying or being eaten?

I saw him pulling on its skin! only the base was looking really bad. It looked shriveled the last couple of days. I thought the Xenia was dying, perhaps it was being eaten?

I purchased this from Liveaquria, its the pom pom xenia thick trunk, short stem Xenia.

If it doesn't die, eventually you are going to wish it did. It just melts away in some tanks and explodes in others. And if you try to get rid of it, every little piece that floats off will attach somewhere until it's everywhere. I had to nuke my tank with fluke tabs, which eradicated the Xenia, but had its own set of problems. If you must have it, isolate on a rock on your sand bed and pray. Just my opinion.

crab or no crab (you can see, it is on the top of my back wall, that was after I harvested a pound from the wall) I have gotten to the point of no water changes because it uses a lot of nutrients and I harvest regularly. If you find he eats it, and don't want the crab, feel free to send him to me! Seriously, i'll buy him. Do you have a matted filefish by any chance? Mine ate a bunch of xenia, traded him eventually because he ate duncans too.

Also some people have problems keeping it alive, it seems like 50/50. Is this new xenia? Looks new since it has not spread. You could just be the half that can't seem to grow it and the crab is eating it because it is dying. I never heard of crabs eating it....but I am always being surprised.

If you just put it in your tank give it a little time. Sometime they just need time to adjust. Like the others have said, once it takes off and starts growing, you will be opening another thread asking how to get rid of it.

And if the crab is eating it you can probably sell that crab to one of the people that are trying to thin out their xenia for a pretty penny!!!
