do seahorses haft to have babys
My name is Sherell and I like animals. I'm in third grade and I have 140 gallon tank in my classroom. I have a question: do seahorses have to have babies? All of the seahorses I've seen have babies with them. Just to be more accurate if seahorses don't have babies will something bad happen to them, like dying or their body systems shut down? Or will they just be fine. I like seahorses, because seahorses swim very cool and, they look cool like how their tales curves under them it look like it helps it jump through the water.

I've had this species, and they seemed to do fine without. The main thing they need is very calm water and practically no competition for food: they're really not very efficient at catching things: they depend on hanging onto a weed stem and having food swim within reach. Fish that are much more agile will eat everything way too fast.
Pipefish are the only fish I know that get along well with seahorses. They have much the same habit.

Hi Sherell,
I like animals, too. Especially interesting ones like seahorses. I like the small fins that are on seahorses' heads and the way that they can move their eyes around. Seahorses do not have to have babies, but, like all animals, when a seahorse is healthy and his habitat provides him with lots of nutritious food and a safe home, then that seahorse will look for another seahorse with which to have babies. So you must see a lot of healthy seahorses if the ones you see always have babies! |

Good luck, Sherell! I've been at this since I was a little younger than you, and I will say I have learned a lot about so many things because of this hobby. I hope you stay with it: it can give you a lifetime of enjoyment!
