reducing a 1.5" drain to 1"??? Plumbing question
Hi,
I bought a used tank from someone and it has a 1.5' drain. The tank is only 40g so this drain is way overkill. My Sump is designed to drain into a filter sock and has a 1" bulkhead going into it. My question is, Can I leave the stand pipe at 1.5" and then reduce it to 1" at the bottom of the bulkhead(inside the stand, not inside the tank)? Thanks |

It's better to change it higher than lower. It's better to have the water go through the choke point with less momentum so it's not as turbulent.

Don't think it really matters. Just do it wherever it is most convenient.

I agree ca1ore. Once the drain fills, it won't matter where the choke point is. The lower the choke point is however, the higher pressure will be created within the drain just from the weight of the water column on top of it. This could generate a slightly higher flow rate. I doubt it would be enough to really amount to anything, just food for thought.
