love the phoenix bulb, since you are not using a m80 ballast with the Radium, i say go for the Phoenix.

Radium are great bulbs but they need to be replacement more often that most other bulbs. I have heard people get 1.5 years to 2 years out of a phoenix. I run the de version for min 1.5.

Just a heads up that the single ended Phoenix is not the same lamp as the double ended. The DE Phoenix is a PAR monster and is substantially more white in appearance than what the single ended counterpart is, which is more dim and blue. For a single ended setup I would personally go with the Radium, which you should be able to get about 9 months out of in the 250w setup, and about 6-8 months out of in the 400w setup.

thanks for the heads up Jeremy, i'm used to using the DE version which is why I recommended it. Good to know, i'm finally making the jump to LED's but will use phoenix 250DE's in LIII HQI fixtures until I save up enough to build two more LED fixtures.

That's the first I have heard of this. Most people seem to run them 18 months or so. Not arguing here as I have never run them myself. Just an observation.

That is interesting. From what Todd at Phoenix/Hexarc told me, they are the exact same bulb and infact need to be driven on an HQI ballast for optimal performance. Did they recently make a change in the bulbs?

I have had them both off of M80 ballasts and both off of electronic ballasts side by side and there's definitely a pretty noticeable difference between the two.
