What are the benefits of a calcium reactor? Is there any down falls to having one & are they a necessary component in a reef system.

For a system with LPS a calcium reactor is not needed. Water changes generally provides enough Alk, Ca, and Mg.

A reactor provides a clam or SPS tank with a stable environment. A reactor is NOT necessary; although it is a great toy to have around if you want stability.
