Needs ideas for a cover on my WP-40 to protect anemones and sea hares.

I have searched the web and RC but haven't found a applicable idea. I have several Jeabo WP-40 can need some type of cover for them to protect sea hares and anemones (don't have the anemone yet) from being chopped to bits.

If you have come up with a good solution to covering these types of pumps, or even the Tunze variety I would love to see it.

Thanks
Dave

I'm not sure if the foam covers used on Vortechs will work but you can view them on the Ecotech Marine web site (replacement parts). Your LFS may carry them also.

I have tried some nylons but they really reduce the amount of flow I am getting.

Nothing you put directly on the pump is going to help.

You need to build a cage around it using a more rigid black plastic chicken wire.

You can put a finer mesh over that but you have to put distance between the mesh and the pump or it will just suck the anemone through it.

The way I would do it is using a bunch of zip ties I would make a cylinder of the black plastic mesh whos diameter is roughly 2" larger then the pump and whose length is maybe and inch longer then the pump. I would cap it on both ends with disks cut out of the mesh and zip tied together. Don't know if you can picture it but that is what I do with my vortechs. It isn't a guarantee but it definitely helps.

Anything you do will cut flow down. These pumps have zilch for head pressure.

yeah, I have been contemplating the idea of building something around the pumps. My biggest worry is making it look nice, these 4 big pumps in the tank are distracting enough.

Thanks for the continuing ideas!

Dave

Unfortunately over the years I have learned that prop pumps and anemones are simply going to be ugly one way or the other.

Either its ugly with a cage or its ugly when you find little chunks of nem all over the tank.
