Using the Corner Gravity Feed Overflows as Refugium
Hi,
I have been in the hobby since 2001 and my current tank is 5 years old, 120 gal with a 20 gal sump. I have always wonted a refugium but don't have the space under the tank. My protein skimmer takes up most of the sump and then I have two pumps, one for the UV sterilizer and the other for my pos reactor so there just is no space left. I have often wondered if I could use my two corner gravity feed overflows to place a few plants. It is lit by the main lights. I have googled and googled to see if there is anyone utilizing the overflows for anything and can't come up with much. First Question - Is there any reason I couldn't use the two corner overflows as a mini refugium? Second Question - Is there anything else I can use the overflows for that would benefit the aqurium. Thanks in advance |

The only challenges in using the overflow as a refugium would be access space, adequate circulation and lighting. Otherwise I se no reason to not do it.

Thank you!!!! I was hoping to hear that... but since I couldn't find anyone else doing it... I thought maybe there would be a glaring problem that I just wasn't seeing. I guess I will give it a try. It does have good lighting, flow. Space is limited, but I will give it a try. I just ordered some plants and Amphipods & Copepod Crossies.
Thank you! |
