DC 12000 Series Pumps Externally?

Anyone running one of the newer Jebao/Waveline DC pumps externally? I thought I remember reading they had some issues in the early days but don't see anything mentioned about the latest crop.

Thanks!

I have both a DC12000 and a DC6000 running externally. I originally had the DC12000 running internally because of the labeling on the pump, but I found out that it was just a translation issue. I have no problems with either pump so far but they have only been running for a couple of months. The only downside I have found is that head loss is severe with these pumps. I get less flow out of my returns with the DC12000 than I did with my old 1740 gph coralife turbo-sea pump.

Since I have my two both running externally, I have no problems with heat build up in the water. When I had the DC12000 running internally, I didn't notice any heat build up in my sump either. However, I run a chiller in my system and that would have maintained my temperature anyway. I will say that I did not notice my chiller running any more that it usually does.

As far as noise goes, I won't say that they are whisper quiet, but they are quiet. The loudest things I hear on my system now is the fans on my LED lights.

I have not had any problems. The DC12000 uses 1.5" and the DC6000 uses 1.25". Just went to Home Depot and bought the fittings and PVC to plumb it in.

Thanks for the info! Do you cycle the speeds often?

I leave the DC12000 pretty much on full power all the time. Like I said these pumps have a lot of head loss. So I want to get as much flow back into my tank as possible. The DC6000 is used on my skimmer. That one I change a lot between level 3 and 5 depending on how the skimmer is working.

Philly Guy, how much head do you have on the DC12000. I have one sitting waiting on me to get inspired to change out the return plumbing and integrate it.

I use a DC12000 internal for my 210 tank, and another one externally in my garage for my sw mixing station. They both do great.

I have a 210g system and my returns are about 6 feet over my sump. I would guess that between bends and elbows that I am probably the equivalent of about 10 foot. I don't think I am getting more than 800 to 1000 gph back into the tank. It's not a problem for me since I have a pair of WP40's in side the tank for primary flow but I did notice a difference.
