Need help installing larger sump

Here is my challenge, I currently have a 180 gallon 72x24x24 that has a severely small sump. The stand (over 15yrs old) is the problem as the center support is very wide and will not allow a larger sump.

I could support the center and remove the center brace but I think the better solution would be to brace the short end of the stand and remove that side to slide in a 55 gallon tank / sump.

Thoughts and suggestions?

what size sump do you have now?

And what are the dimensions of the area you have to work with before any work you would have to do on the stand?

Only a 15 gallon sump currently 24 x 12 x 12 and I have quite a bit of room under the tank 68" x 21 x 28

You could make a sump out of a 40 gal breeder tank, which can be bought at Petco during their $1 a gallon sale

I made a sump out of a used 75 gallon tank I bought off of Craigslist for my 180. 48*18*20

It all depends on the stand construction. If you can gain access to the ends and slide the tank in that is the best approach.

Please be careful. There is a lot of weight there and its old. A lot could go wrong. 55g tanks work great for sumps but I would rather a 40b like mentioned above.

Is there a reason you feel the need to install a larger sump? Sounds like the tank has been setup for a while. What gives?

I am doing a mixed reef this time instead of just fowlr and there is a big sale in two weeks that I can get a 55 gallon for $55.

I think that if I am really careful I should be able to do it, fingers crossed.
