BRS Dual Reactor Question

I recently installed the BRS dual reactor and am running GFO and carbon. I purchased the recommended pump (MJ-1200) as well.

The GFO side appears to be great. 1.5 cups in the insert with a nice, evenly distributed, gentle tumble on the surface of the media.

Output into the sump seems fine as well and, unless my vision is reacting to a placebo effect, the cyano/algae problem is improving.

Problem/question: The carbon side of the reactor appears slightly less than half full. Is this merely the water level in the outer casing that flows down and then up into the carbon? For there to be output into the sump, the water MUST be traveling to the top of the interior chamber/cartridge and exiting, right?

Am I alone? Am I a moron? (Be kind.)

Any wisdom from the elders would be appreciated greatly.

i had that reactor. the water flows down the side then up and out, so your looking at the flowing down water, and then the center piece is full of water. its hard to see because of the flow rate, i had that exact pump as well. an obvious test is to check the output for water coming out. i'm sure you know that lol.

I have the same reactor. Was wondering if you just had some trapped air in the canister. After a media change I keep the canister lightly threaded and allow them to fill slowly. That way all of the air can escape through the threads, then I torque them tight.

The air you see is on the outside of the media chamber. Don't sweat it. For me, it sometimes got purged through and other times didn't.
