Quick question
Still cycling my first tank a 20 gallon reef. I used real reef rock for my live rock and today I moved a piece around and notice it has like a grey film on it on some places. It wipes off but I also checked the sponge on the aquaclear 110 and it was grey too. I hope it's not the rock cause it wasn't cheap lol. The sand was dry sand special grade carib sea.

could you post a pic?
It sounds like it might just be organic film or algae of some sort.

Probably just some algae that will go away in time. You could get a turkey baster and blow it off periodically since you're still in the middle of the cycle.

Looks like bacteria to me. Increased flow would probably help, but it is common during the cycle.
