Hard Lesson don't put top off near corals

Having no sump I placed my top-off line in DT downstream from a Duncan and branching monti big mistake! Duncan lost his head and monti bleached in middle ((((SIGH)))) live and learn....

How much are you topping off at 1 time? Is the line submerged?

My top off is above a few corals, and dumps fully saturated Kalk. No problems here. It's a tunze osmolator FWIW.

Not sure I have 9 gallons of fresh ro water with two tsp of baked baking soda to help stabilize alkalinity. Sometimes I turn the water on longer to make up for evaporation. The stream poured over the Duncan but I didn't think it would hurt it being several inches above. Two weeks later the head popped off and the branching monti is bleached white in the middle where the water streamed to it. Had to be a contact issue. Since then I installed a diffuser so it doesn't pour down but across the water top.

I don't know how concentrated that us but I have burned corals with alkalinity supplement. It's not the fresh water as many do freshwater dips. Sps not so much.
