Different Ways of Cycling A Tank
I just want to hear some different way on how to cycle a tank. I'm in the process of doing so right now and was just wondering some other ways of which I could have done it.

I am cycling mine now as well. I am using a shrimp and about 10 pounds of live rock.

You can also use pure ammonia. I didn't use that method because I couldn't find ammonia that didn't contain surfactant.

All of the "methods" to cycle a tank all do the same thing, they just do it more (or less) effectively. You cannot speed the process. You can spend a LOT more money, and make it seem to go faster (but usually it will not be nearly as complete and "widespread").
Just don't do it with live fish, please....

so what about adding live bacteria? for example using Dr. Tim's One and Only live bacteria. People have great results and added fish within days..
what's the down side to using live bacteria to speed up the cycle? |
