UPS is still 10000000x better than USPS.

Had a fedex driver back into our overhead door at work yesterday. Probably going to turn into a ****ing match after they realize that the driver dented the bottom door panel and completely screwed up all of the weather stripping.

Lovely.

FWIW: when I'm expecting a next day shipment, I pay the extra $15.00 for a saturday delivery and just about sit there to watch him arrive in the AM. I want to get the package RIGHT from his hands- fedex or UPS.

Colton

As a FedEx driver I would like to comment on this. Firstly I take great pride in never having a broken or damaged delivery complaint. It's a big deal for us ground drivers because we are contracted and not only can fedex cut you for no reason but for folks like me who get a nice bonus every month for having no complaints it's a huge deal to me. As long as I hit my time windows for pickups and no complaints I get a bonus every month. Secondly alot of drivers do indeed get to go home wen they are done. I for one do not, I have been done for 2 hours and have an hour left just sitting in a town 100 miles from home waiting for pickups.
I love my job and take pride in being good at it.

Now the sorting facility does tend to be where stuff gets banged up, unloading the 50 foot trailers is done just pulling stuff out and putting it on the conveyor, stuff can fall or get smashed or shifted. You have to remember that the package you ordered has been picked up, then sorted and loaded into a trailer then un packed and resorted to another trailer for how ever many transfers it takes. Those guys may be nice to packages. Some guys may just huck stuff down the line. That's where most damage takes place.

If a driver just chucks a package to the door and its recorded or called in 9 times out of 10 that driver is fired, so they really do take that stuff seriously.

So again yes some drivers may not give a care but alot of us guys do our best to get you your stuff in good condition. At least I do.

I just started readin through this post and wondered when a driver was going to chime in, I drove truck for 11 years. Alot of the problem is that these companies have put a greater work load on the driver(not that that is an excuse). not only that they cut back on the amount of sorter they have in their distribution centers, causing the people their to also work faster and harder and not take as much pride(also not an excuse). all in all it's not really the workers fault nor the driver..it's the company trying to save a buck..

Its not a delivery company problem. Its a people problem.

Got my fancy yellow brittle star ups couple days ago. Box clearly marked live fish...this end up. I tracked the package and it took the driver 4 hours to get it to my house from a center 45 minutes away. I watched him pull up, drop it, ring bell and was driving away before I got to the door. Box was sideways...star still alive and doing well. The company had packed him very well.

That's good it was all good, however you aren't the only package on his truck, drivers have turn by turns usually you don't know how many packages were before you.

However this is a common feeling amongst all of us who order the fact is we're not the only order on that truck and yours is no more important then the other 135.

I try to avoid having things shipped UPS, they've broke or damaged many things including a skimmer and other non aquarium related stuff. I agree though that damage often happens at the distribution center. I used to work at target on the logistics team doing receiving and it's low pay, terrible hours and hard work... still no excuse for slamming products/topling pallets, but it happens... I've had better luck with USPS and FedEx.

I order almost all of my salt mix buckets online(are just at the weight limit for most shippers), mostly because I'm lazy, and I only have haul them from the porch to the basement fishroom. 40% of the BOXED plastic buckets are obliterated upon arrival. Not isolated to any specific carrier.

When we lived in MS, everything I got by UPS was destroyed and everything from FEDEx was pristine. Now h ere in GA, everything from UPS is pristine and FEDEx is hit or miss.

It's not the company it's the people and it differs from place to place.

I can say all the stuff I have gotten not one box looks like it was handled improperly. I get cases of salt and the box looks just like if I was to pick it up myself. We have done alot of blue zoo live.orders sjnce my friend owns a tank cleaning company and never a issue. He also orders either a brs dr. Fosters and smiths or a champion lighting order every week. I have not seen a broken item yet. I guess some people just dont care. I work in a restaurant. I would never send out something burnt over cooked broken but some of my staff would have no problem doing it if I wasn't standing there. They know Ill throw it away and have them do it over even with 40 other tickets behind it. I look at it as I would be angry if somone did it to me so I dont do it.

I doubt there can be any worse....If it actually gets to your house with USPS, not an address 50 houses down, you are in luck.

FedEx, the boxes get to me like brand new. Ups usually the same, but I prefer UPS because I can arrange to meet the driver by phone if I miss the package....FedEx you cannot. My UPS driver also has my cell phone and usually calls me when I have a delivery and asks how I want it delivered

I have been a ups driver for 22yrs.99.9% of damages I come across are improperly packed.I know most of you will think this is an excuse but it's true.Look at the last pic in this thread...it's a bag of sand in a cardboard box.No reinforcement or packing material that I can see.People have to realize that a pkg shipped through ups comes into contact with hundreds if not thousands of other pkgs throughout the facilities it goes through. It travels on miles of conveyer belts, shoots and slides stories high.Thats why packaging is SO important. And yes even properly packaged items get damaged also.Thats going to happen with millions of pkgs going through our system daily.I hope this clears things up a little.

Yeah man, I was super lucky to be home when the UPS guy delivered my Fusion 30. He was VERY careful when he realized I was home, even though he loaded it on his dolly on the side (said do not tip.etc)

I am a manager for a company that does contract cleaning for companies all over North America. I live about an hour from the company we clean. Every Thursday payroll is shipped Fed-Ex next day. I live "off the beaten path" and one day this winter the driver could not get to my house due to snow. He called me and I said it was okay for him to deliver it to the company I work at instead this time.

That was the last time anything with my home address was delivered to my home by Fed Ex. Including my last 3 fish orders with live fish stickers pasted all over the boxes. Talk about being pi$$ed by having to drive an hour to work pick up package, drive back home, and then back to work.

the wonderful guys at fedex left an LED lighting unit out on my porch in an apocalyptic rain storm, after smashing the box to bits of course.

no bag. didn't bother to try to cover it, or put it in my screen door, or in the *TOTALLY* dry spot under the eaves in front of my garage.

nope.

they opened my screen door, dropped the box in the middle of my front porch, leaving the screen door propped open on the box, and walked away.

by the time i got home the door was almost ripped off the hinges from the wind, and everything was soaked.

luckily the light still worked.

i called up the distro center and had it out with them.

they constantly screw up.

they even delivered my gun parts to a house a few blocks up the street. signature required and everything. when i called to confront them on that one, they swore up and down a wall that the driver "knew that route well" and that the delivery went to the right address.

luckily the neighbor up the road that received my large box of firearm components brought them down.

Yes I agree! I ordered my first big purchase for my tank, my leds. I was so excited to get them. The box comes in with a massive hole in the side and packing tape wrapped around the box covering the hole. It was missing everything but the drivers, the heat sinks an the splash guards.

Then again, I did a live coral order and I had to pick up from UPS center. The box is labeled "LIVE FISH". The woman says " oh you got the live fish?" puts the box on the counter and SPINS IT! luckily it was coral and not fish! I was furious that she handled my package like that.
